Why Fes?

The City

Fes is the oldest of the Moroccan imperial cities. The medina of Fes-el-Bali is the worlds largest medieval city and is classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. It still gives the impression of living largely in the centuries-old traditions that have shaped it.

The Houses

The majority of the houses have two or three storey’s. The rooms face into a central courtyard creating a private place for the occupants. The walls and ceilings are traditionally decorated with carved plaster and cedar wood whilst the floors are covered in mosaic tiles (zellij). The larger houses (riads), have an open courtyard normally planted with lemon and orange fruit trees. The smaller houses (dars) have an enclosed courtyard.

Why Buy?

Some see that the house prices in Marrakesh have peaked and that Fes is now the preferred place to buy.

The government of Morocco are committed to increasing tourism in Fes and are encouraging foreign buyers in an attempt to better preserve the ancient medina.

Budget airlines like Ryanair are now flying directly into Fes allowing easy access from the UK, France and Spain.

For all these reasons, foreign investment is growing and house prices are increasing.

Buying a house in the Fes medina should provide good capital growth and a good source of rental income.

It is still possible to buy a 3 bedroom dar for around 40,000 Euros.
